Mayor Harry LaRosiliere
Harry LaRosiliere was elected as the 39th Mayor of the City of Plano in May 2013. During his term in office, Mayor LaRosiliere has embraced the City of Plano’s commitment to be the City of Excellence.
Mayor LaRosiliere is not new to local government. Prior to being elected Mayor, he served six years as a popular member of the Plano City Council and has chaired numerous nonprofit boards and commissions. His commitment to servant leadership has remained strong since arriving in Plano in 1995. He currently serves as an advisory board member of CASA of Collin County and on the President’s Council at Texas Health Resources. The Mayor is also a member of the Plano Metro Rotary Club, the Plano Chamber of Commerce and the U.S. Conference of Mayors where he serves on many committees including the Transportation and Communications, Tourism, Parks, Entertainment and Sports Committee.
The Mayor places a high priority on activities that spur economic development because such efforts help bring prosperity to families and businesses in the community. One of his key contributions to Plano’s business community is his role in the creation of the Economic Development Fund established in 2005 to attract and retain business in Plano. Since that time, the Economic Development Fund has helped bring almost 17,000 jobs to Plano and landed corporate citizens such as Capital One, Pizza Hut, USAA, FedEx, Toyota and many more.
Mayor LaRosiliere sees his role as an ambassador of Plano, using his unique leadership story to raise awareness of Plano and its incredible contributions to North Texas. Plano has earned national recognition for its pro-business climate and high quality of life for professionals with families. In 2013, Plano was named Best Run City of 100 largest cities in the U.S. Mayor LaRosiliere intends to maintain the standards that earned this honor.
Mayor LaRosiliere comes from humble beginnings. Born in Haiti, his family moved to the Harlem neighborhood of New York City when he was just three years old. His parents embraced the American dream of education and upward mobility. To achieve this for their children, each parent worked multiple jobs, long hours and relied on their faith for inspiration. Both he and his sister attended their neighborhood Catholic school Corpus Christi and went on to Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx. He and his sister were first generation graduates in their family. When he turned 18, he became a U.S. Citizen.
After receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in geology from City College of New York, Mayor LaRosiliere followed his entrepreneurial spirit and successfully ran a photography studio for eight years. After moving to Plano in 1994, the boy who was good with numbers finally found his calling when he began his career as a financial advisor.
Harry and his wife Tracy had plans of being in Plano for a few years and then to head back East. They have since become deeply rooted in the community where they have raised their two teenage daughters. They know that Plano is their family home and they are focused on keeping it a great place to live, work and play.
